Book Blogging Woes

I’ve been blogging for about 4 years now and, man, have I had some woes. Not only was it a bit hard to start a blog – choosing a theme for the background of my blog was almost impossible – but it’s hard to maintain one as well. Here are a couple of the woes that I’ve had to deal with as of late.

GETTING ARCS

This is one reason I wanted to start up a blog in the first place. I love getting to read and review books, especially if I can get them early. Only lately have I been getting Advance Reader Copies and now have a couple contacts at big publishing companies. It’s definitely been a long time coming, but it’s so worth it in the end! I know I won’t get too many big names ARCs for a while yet (unless I trade for them or win a giveaway), but I still love getting the chance to read books early.  Netgalley has also been a godsend as I can get a lot of eARCs to read and review.

FINDING THE TIME

It has been so hard for me to find time to blog lately. Between caring for and riding my 6 horses and taking on horse training clients my weeks are pretty packed. It doesn’t leave much time for blogging or even reading for that matter. I’ve slowed down on my reading, and I kinda hate that I have to put it on the back burner at times to do other things. Hopefully after next summer I can really get my horse training and my book sleeve business going so  I can stay home and set aside time to read and blog.

GOING TO CONVENTIONS

I love being able to get out and go to book conventions! I legit would go to all of them if I had the time and money to. Not only is it fun to be surrounded by book loving people such as myself, but I also can meet authors and get some awesome swag too. With trying to save money, I’ve had to cut out going to BookCon. It really sucks, but soon I’ll be able to go to more than just Yallfest again. It’s one of my goals to go to Yallwest in the coming years.

WRITING REVIEWS

Don’t get me wrong, I love writing reviews for y’all, but they’re so hard to do. I can absolutely love a book and have so much I want to say, but as soon as I sit down to write my review my mind goes blank and I can’t remember anything of what I wanted to talk about. I don’t know why this happens and it’s so frustrating. I really need to start writing things out as I think of them.

There are many more woes that I’ve had to deal with, but I feel like I’ve ranted enough for one post. Are there any difficulties in blogging that you’ve experienced?

I agree that it can be really difficult to find the time to blog, whatever kind of blog you run. I would say to set some time aside per week in order to focus on blogging, but when things happen then this is easier said than done.
